Expertise & Authentication
of African and Oceanic Art
Masks, statues, ivories, ritual textiles, and ceremonial objects
Guillaume J.A. Bresso advises collectors, estates, and institutions on the authentication, study, and valuation of works from Africa and Oceania.
With more than fifteen years of fieldwork in Central and West Africa and Papua New Guinea, he brings first-hand knowledge of living traditions to a field where market pressures and stylistic mimicry often blur the line between authentic and later pieces.
His practice is built on the conviction that true expertise requires constant negotiation between visible form, material evidence, and invisible cultural logic — an approach that accepts the limits of certainty while pursuing the highest possible degree of confidence.
